Dylan pitching in Palm Springs 2009

2019

We are ready for another scholarship to be given. We are accepting applications for the Dylan Nahorniak Memorial Scholarship. Applications deadline is August. 1, 2019.

Scholarship information is as follows:

Background

Dylan was a highly regarded baseball player, not only in Canada, but also, in the United States. He was also a valued member of the Saskatoon and Saskatchewan baseball community as he had began playing baseball at a very young age. After losing Dylan tragically in a motor vehicle accident in Sept of 2010 his family and friends felt it very important to keep his legacy around, even though he physically was not. Dylan wanted to “give back to the game that blessed him endlessly” which was his quote in an email where he wanted to donate his ball equipment from younger years to others who maybe could not afford it.

Amount

$1000 available annually. The winning candidate (s) will be selected by the scholarship committee annually.

Criteria

Dylan was regarded not only for his athleticism but also for his desire and passion for the game of baseball. As such, selection for this scholarship will be based on a combination of athletic excellence and a demonstrated desire and passion for baseball. The selection committee may also consider financial needs, as well as, contribution and dedication to the baseball community in ways other than just as a player.

Applications will consist of an informal essay (approximately one to two pages) outlining how the candidate meets any and all of the above criteria. Essays should include past baseball experience and achievements, as well as, future college/university baseball plans and goals. Candidates should also outline and give examples of experiences, personal characteristics, and circumstances that make them ideal for this scholarship as described by the above criteria. Deadline applications are due August. 1, 2018.
